Step Into the Light
Who is this man
I heard some ask
Among the restless crowd.
I couldn't see
Or understand
What made them cry so loud.
I stretched up high
To get a look
And saw Him standing there.
This was the day
We'd waited for
And some were unaware.
Some were afraid
And tried to hide
In hopes He wouldn't see.
Now suddenly
It mattered most
Who they'd turned out to be.
They cowered so
In shadows dark
And trembled with great fear.
They couldn't stand
The Heavenly light
That glowed when He was near.
And many wept
With great relief
To know he finally came.
And they were not
Surprised to find
He knew them all by name.
They ran to Him;
They kissed His feet
And bathed them with their tears.
Then hugged Him tight
And thanked Him
For His love they held so dear.
All had been told
He'd come sometime
As a stranger in the night;
That they must watch
And be prepared
To step into the Light.
Some had obeyed
And they endured;
They knew He'd come again.
But some denied
And lived as if
There was no harm in sin.
And when He came
They parted
To His left and to His right.
And all of them
Who kept the faith
Stepped into the light.
