Please tell me,
What must I do right now?
I’ve got to make a difference
I’ll get him back somehow.
He’s shifting
To paths I would not choose.
With all my heart I love him.
This one I cannot lose.
I’m desperate.
Just tell me what to do.
Speak clearly so I’ll know
The answer came from you.
My child,
I understand your plea,
But I could never give you
What you request of me.
The power
To change another’s heart
Does not belong to you;
In this you have no part.
Be patient,
Love him with all your might.
Trust me; I have the power
To help him see the light.
Author's Comment: This poem was inspired by a humbling experience I had one morning while praying for a wayward child. I tearfully pled with Heavenly Father to tell me what to do to get them back on the right track. After I closed my prayer, before I could even get up off my knees, a voice came into my head and said “What makes you so powerful?” At that very moment I realized how powerless I really was. Only the love of the Savior and the power of His atonement could make a difference; My responsibility was merely to love unconditionally and wait for the miracle to take place…in the Lord’s time.
